The AMC Honor Guard was established in 2006 after Colonel Groves of the Texas A&M Commandant's Staff learned that seven World War II veterans, all former Aggies, would not be receiving military funeral honors from their respective branches of service. Determined that these men should be recognized for their service to both the Nation and Texas A&M University, Colonel Groves called upon a group of senior cadets to render honors at each of the seven funerals.
What began as a single act of service quickly became something greater. After witnessing the profound impact these ceremonies had on the families they served, the cadets chose to continue their mission, forming the AMC Honor Guard as a permanent special unit within the Corps of Cadets. Since then, generations of cadets have carried forward this tradition, training each year to preserve the customs of military funeral honors and serve the Aggie community with professionalism, humility, and respect.
Today, the AMC Honor Guard continues to honor veterans, former cadets, distinguished members of the Texas A&M community, and others as authorized. Through enduring partnerships with local funeral homes, the Bryan–College Station community, and the Aggie Field of Honor, the organization remains committed to ensuring that every ceremony reflects the dignity, gratitude, and reverence each life has earned.
